Asics has introduced the Gel-Phai Z, marking its entry into the low-profile sneaker market with a design featuring a thin sole. This move follows other brands like Adidas and Puma, which have already embraced sleeker silhouettes during 2026. The new Gel-Phai Z integrates Asics' signature Gel cushioning into a flatter profile, a departure from its recent focus on bulkier, running-inspired models such as the Gel-Kayano 14 and GT-2160 Source.

The Gel-Phai Z maintains a recognizable Asics aesthetic with its mesh upper, leather elements, and side stripes, but re-engineers the sole for a significantly leaner look. Despite the thinner profile, the concealed Gel-Dämpfung is designed to provide comfort, and the outsole has been re-engineered to adapt to natural foot movement rather than being directly adopted from their performance running shoes. This combination of classic brand identity with a contemporary silhouette aims to make it a notable sneaker release for Summer 2026 and Fall 2026.
