Describe the room, not the vibe

The more concrete the brief, the better the answer. "Autumn wedding, garden ceremony, indoor reception, likely 15C, dress code says semi-formal" gets you somewhere. "Something cute" does not.

Include the things that quietly decide the outfit: how long you will stand, whether you will be photographed, whether there is grass involved.

Reading dress codes without panicking

Semi-formal means a dress or tailoring, not a gown. Business casual means the trousers do the formal work and the top can relax. Cocktail sits between them and is decided mostly by fabric and shoe.
